Sundays at Home

Resources for worshipping at home during the coronavirus crisis

Order of Service for Worship at home for Sunday May 24, 2020

Moment of Silence: Pray silently.  Remember that you are in the presence of God and humble yourself before him.

Opening reading:  Psalm 100

Prayer of praise:  Heavenly Father, we have just read your invitation to all the earth to come into your presence with singing.  You are perfect and need nothing, yet you welcome us to come and serve you with gladness.  We have nothing to offer you but ourselves redeemed by your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our salvation. So, we come, thankfully, joyfully, humbly praying that you would “tune our hearts to sing your praise.” You are good.  Your love is eternal and unchanging.  You are faithful to us, your people, and will never leave us nor forsake us.  We praise your holy name.  We praise you for sending us your Spirit who gives us life and strength to worship you as we should.  Be praised in our worship now.  All this we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

Song 1:  All Hail The Power

1 All hail the pow'r of Jesus' name!

Let angels prostrate fall;

bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown him Lord of all;

bring forth the royal diadem,

and crown him Lord of all.

2 Crown him, ye martyrs of your God,

who from his altar call;

extol the Stem of Jesse's rod,

and crown him Lord of all;

extol the Stem of Jesse's rod,

and crown him Lord of all.

3 Ye seed of Israel's chosen race,

ye ransomed of the fall,

hail him who saves you by his grace,

and crown him Lord of all;

hail him who saves you by his grace,

and crown him Lord of all.

4 Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget

the wormwood and the gall,

go, spread your trophies at his feet,

and crown him Lord of all;

go, spread your trophies at his feet,

and crown him Lord of all.

5 Let ev'ry kindred, ev'ry tribe,

on this terrestrial ball,

to him all majesty ascribe,

and crown him Lord of all;

to him all majesty ascribe,

and crown him Lord of all.

6 O that with yonder sacred throng

we at his feet may fall;

we'll join the everlasting song,

and crown him Lord of all;

we'll join the everlasting song,

and crown him Lord of all.

Reading:  Romans 2:1-11 (Read in preparation for confession)

Prayer of Confession:  Oh, Holy God, your word exposes our failures and sin.  We are without excuse.  Our own words condemn us as we have cast judgment on others.  We confess we have thought too highly of ourselves.  We stand before you guilty of pride and arrogance.  We have no excuse before your holy throne.  We have presumed upon the riches of your kindness, goodness, and patience.  We have been slow to repent and negligent to give you thanks and praise.  Forgive us our sins.  Be merciful to us.  We ask that you cleanse us of all unrighteousness and deliver us from the wrath to come for we pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in whom alone we have hope. Amen

Assurance of pardon: “Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,  just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

 ‘Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
    and whose sins are covered;
blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.’” Romans 4:4-8

(Remember that the gospel is true and that God loves to save sinners.)

Song 2:  In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found,

He is my light, my strength, my song

This Cornerstone, this solid Ground

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled, when strivings cease

My Comforter, my All in All

Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,

Fullness of God in helpless babe.

This gift of love and righteousness,

Scorned by the ones He came to save

Till on that cross as Jesus died,

The wrath of God was satisfied

For every sin on Him was laid

Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,

Light of the world by darkness slain:

Then bursting forth in glorious day

Up from the grave He rose again

And as He stands in victory

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,

For I am His and He is mine

Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me

From life's first cry to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand

Till He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Song 3:  I Know That My Redeemer Lives

I know that my Redeemer lives;

what comfort this sweet sentence gives!

He lives, He lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my everliving Head.

He lives to silence all my fears,

He lives to wipe away my tears,

He lives to calm my troubled heart,

He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives and grants me daily breath;

He lives and I shall conquer death;

He lives, and while He lives, I'll sing;

He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.

He lives triumphant from the grave,

He lives eternally to save,

What joy this blessed assurance gives,

I know that my Redeemer lives!

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow

Praise Him all creatures here below

Video Devotional (or read 1Peter 5:7)

Song 4:  He Will Hold Me Fast

When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast;

When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast.

I could never keep my hold through life's fearful path;

For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.

He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;

For my Saviour loves me so, He will hold me fast.

Those He saves are His delight, Christ will hold me fast;

Precious in his holy sight, He will hold me fast.

He'll not let my soul be lost; His promises shall last;

Bought by Him at such a cost, He will hold me fast.

He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;

For my Saviour loves me so, He will hold me fast.

For my life He bled and died, Christ will hold me fast;

Justice has been satisfied; He will hold me fast.

Raised with Him to endless life, He will hold me fast

'Till our faith is turned to sight, When He comes at last!

He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast;

For my Saviour loves me so, He will hold me fast.
