Order of Service for Worship at Home

March 29th, 2020

Moment of Silence - Pray silently, remember that you are in the presence of God and humble yourself before him.

Opening Reading: Psalm 91

Prayer of Praise

A suggested prayer of praise: Dear Father in heaven, we come into your presence to praise You for being our refuge and fortress. You are our shelter.  You cover us with your shadow.  You deliver us from danger and sickness. We abide in You.  We trust you to protect us.  You rule over every danger, every plague that might threaten us.  For this we praise You.  We love you.  We call to You to keep us, to hear our praise, to be glorified in our worship today.  This we pray in the name of Your Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Song 1: This is My Father’s World, #111 (lyrics and song resources below)

Reading: Mark 12:28-34 (read in preparation for confession)

Prayer of Confession

A suggested prayer of confession: Holy Father, as we read your word, we recognize our failures and confess our sins to you.  We have not loved You as we should—with all our hearts, all our souls, all our minds, and all our strength.  We have loved the world too much.  We have loved our things, our money, our distractions, our comforts more than You.  O Lord, forgive us.  We confess that we have loved ourselves much more than we have loved others.  We have put ourselves first over our families, our parents, our children, our brothers and sisters and our neighbors.  We ask your forgiveness, O Father.  Help us to love You more, to love others more.  Cleanse us from these and all our sins for we pray in Jesus name, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon: Mark 10:45 (remember that the gospel is true and that God loves to save sinners)

So great was our need that Jesus came to give His life a ransom for all who call upon Him in faith.  Give thanks to God for His great mercy and forgiveness secured for us by the offering of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Song 1: This is My Father’s World, #111

Sheet music: https://hymnary.org/text/this_is_my_fathers_world_and_to_my

Video with lyrics: https://youtu.be/P_rtDu2vpaY

This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears

All nature sings, and round me rings, the music of the spheres.

This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought

Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas— His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father's world: the birds their carols raise,

The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker's praise.

This is my Father's world: He shines in all that's fair;

In the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father's world: O let me ne'er forget

That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet.

This is my Father's world: Why should my heart be sad?

The Lord is King: let the heavens ring! God reigns; let earth be glad!

Song 2: The Solid Rock

Sheet music: https://hymnary.org/text/my_hope_is_built_on_nothing_less

Video with lyrics: https://youtu.be/WWxOS_ufS5Y

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

Refrain:

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;

all other ground is sinking sand,

all other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace;

in ev'ry high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]

His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood;

when all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.  Refrain]

When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found,

dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]

Song 3: Rock of Ages

Sheet music: https://hymnary.org/text/rock_of_ages_cleft_for_me_let_me_hide

Video with lyrics: https://youtu.be/XnZRRt5EMr0

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee;

let the water and the blood, from thy riven side which flowed,

be of sin the double cure, cleanse me from its guilt and pow'r.

Not the labors of my hands, can fulfil thy law's demands;

could my zeal no respite know, could my tears for ever flow,

all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling;

naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace;

foul, I to the Fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyelids close in death,

when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne,

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.

Song 4: Our Great God

Sheet music: https://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0050778

Video with lyrics: https://youtu.be/xJxK7xWTqYg

Eternal God unchanging, mysterious and unknown

Your boundless love unfailing in grace and mercy shown

Bright seraphim in ceaseless flight around Your glorious throne

They raise their voices day and night in praise to You alone

Refrain:

Hallelujah glory be to our great God

Hallelujah glory be to our great God

Lord we are weak and frail, helpless in the storm

Surround us with Your angels, hold us in Your arms

Our cold and ruthless enemy His pleasure is our harm

Rise up O Lord and he will flee before our sov'reign God [Refrain]

Let ev'ry creatire in the sea and ev'ry flying bird

Let ev'ry mountain, ev'ry field and valley of the earth

Let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe

Sing praises to the living God

Who rules them by His Word [Refrain]
