Mens Weekend Event“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.” C.S. Lewis

Friday: Lest Anyone Boast: Humility & the Gospel: Humility is much neglected in today’s evangelical church, or replaced with fleshly false humility not formed by the Gospel. But it is the Gospel itself which both demands and engenders humility within us. The Gospel shows us that salvation is entirely by grace, so that all glory is reserved to God alone. Therefore, we have nothing in which to boast, save the Cross of Christ our Lord.

Saturday 1: Bold Nobodies: Humility Regarding Yourself: Not only is humility required for us to come to Christ, it is required to grow in Christ as we see our own weaknesses and need more and more. It should thus be the primary goal of all true Christian discipleship. At the same time, humility recognizes the great truth that God uses weak vessels like us for eternal good. Amazing grace!

Saturday 2: Tales from the Lower Totem Pole: Humility Towards Others - The proof of the pudding of whether we are really growing in humility is how we treat the people around us. We are given opportunities to do that, sometimes from below (e.g. as employees), and sometimes from above (e.g. as bosses). The key is to treat people as worthy, regardless of their utility; to do the right thing with an eye towards heavenly reward rather than the results of this life.

Saturday 3: The Assembly of Egos: Humility as the Church - As Christians are to be marked first and foremost as humble, so should our churches be. But we have not thought this through much as Americans, and are not terribly good at even trying to apply Matthew 6 or 23 in our life together. By following the simple means of grace, humble leadership, placing unity first, and evangelizing humbly, we can turn our church factories back into gardens.
